Summary/Abstract: This article examines the philosophical contributions of Mary Astell and Mary Wollstonecraft to the development of women's rights thought, highlighting how the two authors challenged gender inequality in different historical and intellectual contexts. Although separated by almost a century, Astell and Wollstonecraft share the fundamental belief that women are rational and moral beings, and that their social subordination has no natural justification.
