Summary/Abstract: In the 1730s, due to socio-political circumstances, Serbian Church Slavonic was replaced by Russian Church Slavonic. At the same time, the Russian literary language began to be sporadically activated in the Serbian cultural environment (in written production). As elaborate and functionally polyvalent, these languages played a very important role in the process of building certain segments of the lexicon in one of the Serbian literary languages of the 18th and 19th century − Slavonic-Serbian, Dositeyan, and even in the literary language based on Vuk Karadžić’s vernacular principles. This paper systematizes and examines various types of the aforementioned influences up to the mid-19th century: (1) reactivation of inherited forms (with the emergence of Russian phonological nuances), (2) filling in lexical gaps and forming terminology, (3) stylistic role, (4) intermediary role in the process of borrowing foreign vocabulary, and (5) formation models.
