Summary/Abstract: In the Moldavian SSR, broadcasting was a central element of the Soviet ideological mechanism, integrated into a large-scale propaganda system. The Party officially emphasized the importance of “multifaceted and comprehensive propaganda” conducted through radio, television, print media, literature, and educational institutions. Audiovisual media not only transmitted information but also reinforced Soviet doctrine, shaping collective consciousness in a unified direction. Radio and television in the Moldavian SSR were subjected to strict censorship aimed at protecting the population from “harmful” Western influences and “class enemies”. Content was tightly controlled, and access to information from Romania and the Romanian diaspora was blocked. Radio broadcasting was a key target of censorship, with programs being filtered and foreign stations jammed. However, the regime’s attempts to completely control the flow of information ultimately proved ineffective. To strengthen ideological control, the Moldavian Telegraph Agency (ATEM) was established on April 22, 1944, with the role of disseminating official information and preventing the penetration of alternative perspectives. On August 19, 1944, authorities took measures to confiscate radio receivers from the population, replacing them with centralized loudspeakers that broadcast exclusively Soviet programs. Broadcasting in the Moldavian SSR was not merely a means of communication but a tool of social engineering designed by the Soviet propaganda system. Under strict ideological control, it served as the primary channel for shaping public opinion, reflecting only the officially approved version of reality. Analyzing this system provides insight into how propaganda mechanisms influenced mass consciousness and in- formation perception for decades.
