Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the terminological analysis of the Latin adjective cranialis and its Slovak equivalents in both historical and contemporary anatomical nomenclature. The origin of this term, derived from the Greek kranion (skull), gradually became established in the naming of cranial nerves, brain membranes, and anatomical structures related to the skull. The paper traces the development of Latin terms for nerves emerging from the brain (nervi cerebri, nervi capitis, nervi craniales, nervi encephalici) and their Slovak translations, ranging from “brain nerves” to the current “head nerves”. It highlights the inconsistency of Slovak equivalents (hlavový, mozgový, lebkový, horný) and the tension between the formal and semantic aspect of the anatomical terms.
