Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the translation of the Latin medical terminology term - vas (Eng. Vessel; Svk. cieva) and its derivatives vasculosus (Eng. vasculose/vasculous; Svk. cievnatý) and vascularis (Eng. vascular; Svk. cievový, cievny) into Slovak human and veterinary anatomical nomenclature from the diachronic point of view. It also describes how (based on a novel translation of J. Ledényi) the other two terms, namely tunica choroidea (Eng. choroid; Svk. cievovka) and pia mater (Eng. pia mater; Svk. cievnatka), became interconnected with the term vas in Slovak. Unfortunately, the authors of later editions/retranslations of anatomical nomenclatures were not always aware of the morphemic structure of particular Latin terms when searching for Slovak equivalents, which generates various types of misapprehension, even as substantial as the intermingling of Slovak equivalents of terms choroid and pia mater.
