Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the Youth Words of the Year from 2008 to 2025 with the aim to show how youth language and the nomination of the ˮYouth Word of the Year“ have evolved from 2008 to 2025 and which linguistic as well as socio-cultural trends can be observed. After introducing youth language and the ˮYouth Word of the Year“ initiative, the study reviews the words selected from 2008 to 2025 and analyzes their linguistic and socio-cultural characteristics. It analyzes word formation, meaning and origin, considering the influence of media, internet and pop culture on their emergence. Additionally, the study examines the social and cultural contexts reflected in the selected youth words. The analysis demonstrates that youth language not only expresses youth identity but also reflects broader social developments and ongoing processes of language change. The study provides insights into the dynamics of youth language and contributes to a better understanding of its linguistic and social functions.
