Summary/Abstract: The essay pointed out the importance of the 1847 for the history of Serbian literature and culture. Some of the most important books published that year were shown: Vuk’s translation of the New Testament, Đura Daničić’s philological treatise The War for the Serbian Language and Spelling, as well as two magisterial poetic works: Poems by Branko Radičević and Gorski vijenac by Petar II Petrović Njegoš. Special analytical attention is devoted to Njegoš’s dramatic song Gorski vijenac. The different genre characteristics of this work, the creative synthesis of the dramatic, lyrical and epic, as well as the artistic symbiosis of history and poetry, through which the historical fate of the Serbian people from the territory of Montenegro is viewed, are pointed out.
