Patent description – a genre of functional text between the official and scientific style

Summary/Abstract: This article presents the stylistic and genre features of the patent description. This poorly recognised functional genre, due to the pragmatic parameters of the text, should be considered as a highly standardised official genre. However, due to its linguistic and receptive values and exponents, it can be seen as a specific scientific text, closely linked to the practical application of knowledge in the field of technology. The article recalls the most important findings on the official and scientific style, presents the most relevant information on the patent description itself and analyses its selected, most important elements to take a closer look at the stylistic entanglement of the genre.
