Summary/Abstract: This article explores how composers in Soviet Ukraine navigated the ideological demands of the Communist Party to avoid repression or advance their careers. Drawing on documents from the Union of Composers of Ukraine and personal archival fonds, the authors analyse the strategies of Ukrainian composers under totalitarian rule. The study highlights the tension between artistic autonomy and political conformity, offering new insights through the cases of Mykhailo Verykivsky, Andrii Shtoharenko, and Borys Liatoshynsky.
