The legal and organisational treatment of the Mazovian sejmiks during the period of the Great Sejm

Summary/Abstract: On the basis of rich literature on the Great Sejm and a small number of source materials concerning Mazovian sejmiks as well as other studies and publications of source publications, the authors attempt to present the Mazovian sejmiks from the legal and organisational point of view. The research begins with the characteristics of the Mazovian nobility, an analysis of its political culture and intellectual condition, referring to the educational system functioning in Mazovia or the Mazovian art and architecture of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. They discuss the sejm geography of Mazovia and point to its adaptation to the legal and organisational principles in force in the whole of the Kingdom of Poland. Analysing the legal and organisational aspects of the Mazovian sejmiks, the authors address issues such as the organisation of the sejmik, the place of sitting, the election of deputies and deputies as well as civil-military and treasury-military committees.
