Summary/Abstract: This study explores the grounds, ideas, and aspects of postmodernism (late modernity). It does not claim to be exhaustive. In an attempt to construct a general picture of postmodern thought, it presents key theses on selected aspects and raises a number of philosophical, social, moral, and cultural questions that are problematic in nature and call for continued inquiry in the future. The paper outlines the pitfalls of postmodern ideologies that pose risks to both the individual and society. It explores attitudes toward the past, traditions, universal values, archetypal images, truth, and freedom. The consequences of replacing the traditional salvation paradigm and the imposition of a new morality are noted. The article addresses the most essential postmodern contradictions and their impact on individual and social stability. It investigates the causes of the increasingly apparent value chaos, among which moral relativism and the pursuit of success and pleasure, often prioritized over the purposeful development of character, stand out. Special attention is given to hedonism as the philosophy of the postmodern individual, which rejects norms and rules. The observations are connected both with humanities education in schools and with the academic training of university students. As part of the argumentation, the article presents results from a study on the cultural memory of pedagogy students at the Dobrich College, a branch of Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen.
