Summary/Abstract: By highlighting the significant role of folk tales in child development, the article underscores the need for in-depth engagement with this genre in primary school literature classes. To achieve the educational and developmental objectives through fairy- tale discourse, it is particularly important who delivers the tales to the children and how the events, characters, and moral lessons are conveyed. The study identifies the key competencies that a literature teacher should possess. The three main components of the competency framework—knowledge, skills, and attitudes—are distinguished, and specific expectations regarding the teacher’s performance are outlined.
