Summary/Abstract: The article examines the emergence of civil journalism and the ways the audience is involved in the selection of the news. Images taken by eyewitnesses can take a leading position in traditional media and even displace professionally made photos. The publication discusses the change in the business model of mass media, which increasingly encourage their audience to send them pictures. The paper analyzes the transformation of journalistic work – the use of unprofessionally taken eyewitness photographs carries its risks and requires additional checks. The article also draws attention to the ways mass media communicates with the public and what may the results be.
