Summary/Abstract: The language of a community serves as a distinctive “calling card” and a recognizable emblem – both of the nation or people as a whole, and of the individual in particular. Human society is fundamentally based on interpersonal relationships and communication, and its harmonious, orderly, and organized existence would be unthinkable without codified behavioral rules, norms, and imperatives that are universally accepted by all its members. Every society develops stable linguistic means through which it expresses its orientation toward the future – hope, aspiration, support, and concern. Among these, well- wishes and blessings occupy a special place, functioning as speech acts with clearly established sociocultural roles. In the Turkish language, these formulaic expressions are deeply rooted in daily life, religious practice, and interpersonal communication. They represent a blend of verbal tradition and cultural symbolism, forming an integral part of the Turkish language’s rich etiquette system. In the Turkish communicative culture, such expressions fulfill not only a social but also a ritual and at times – sacred function. Well-wishes in Turkish can be regarded as stereotypical forms of verbal support, whereby the speaker performs a linguistic act of blessing within a normatively defined context. Although well- wishes and blessings are often used interchangeably in everyday speech, they differ in their linguistic-cultural, semantic, and pragmatic functions, as well as in their stylistic connotations. This study aims to examine the main types of well-wishes and blessings in contemporary Turkish, classifying them according to their pragmatic function and thematic orientation.
