Summary/Abstract: This article presents selected aspects of water management in transboundary waters. It discusses international cooperation in water management in the Oder River Basin between Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, together with related legal regulations (including EU legislation, bilateral agreements, and a trilateral agreement). It is noted that all three countries apply similar principles and standards in water management. The aim of the paper is to highlight the challenges of managing a transboundary river at both low and high flow and in the presence of water pollution. To this end, water flows for the Oder River in Słubice are analyzed based on daily flow data collected by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW-PIB) from 1951 to 2022. The results indicate high seasonal and annual variability of flows, which can lead to floods and droughts, indicating the need for closer international cooperation, especially during the summer months. Such cooperation could contribute to better management of transboundary waters, achieve tangible positive effects for the population and economy in the transboundary regions, and increase the sense of water security.
