Summary/Abstract: The article raises the issue of maintaining health in the context of long-term distance learning, which was caused by the global pandemic and the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine. It is noted that long-term hypodynamia caused by distance learning, prolonged stress states, constant work on personal electronic devices, etc., led to a significant deterioration in the health of the subjects of the educational process and an insufficient level of accessibility, safety and comfort of learning conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to focus attention on health education in domestic educational institutions. Citing the Law of Ukraine «On Education», we emphasize that teaching staff are obliged to promote the development of the abilities of students, to form in them the skills of a healthy lifestyle, and to take care of their physical and mental health. The competences that the subjects of the educational process should master in order to create a safe educational environment, taking into account the challenges posed by the present, are given. Students and teachers need a healthy educational environment that will provide physical, psychological, informational and social well-being and comfort. The authors of the study analyzed the extent to which attention is paid to a health-preserving educational environment in domestic educational institutions and how the students’ competence regarding a healthy lifestyle is formed. Developed syllabus, work programs of disciplines and other educational and methodical documents of those educational components that (in the opinion of the authors) should form the necessary competencies of a healthy lifestyle in students and, thus, provide a health-preserving educational environment. Thus, at the Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University and at the Flight Academy of the National Aviation University, the discipline «Life Safety» is taught, which is calculated for 2 credits (60 hours) and 3 credits (90 hours), respectively. After analyzing the syllabus of this discipline, we conclude that it is aimed more at the formation of occupational health and safety competencies, and not at the formation of healthy lifestyle skills in students. Also, with the aim of focusing the attention of higher education seekers on maintaining their own health, educational activities such as «Health care competence in conditions of distance learning» etc. are held. However, according to the authors, not enough attention is paid specifically to the specifics of health preservation, motivation for physical activity, encouraging adherence to a healthy lifestyle, etc.
