Summary/Abstract: The article emphasizes the need for emphasizing the scientific component during the professional training of future specialists in physical education and sports. The increasing flow of scientific information, its rapid «aging», and the need for knowledge renewal require higher education institutions to prepare highly qualified professionals – researchers who have high theoretical and professional training and are capable of independent creative work. It is noted that the professional activity of a modern specialist in physical education and sports involves quality organization of the work process, defining the requirements for their level of professional training. In this context, the emphasis is placed on the scientific component of the professional training of these specialists, as the improvement of the work process in various positions in the field of physical education is achieved, in part, through the introduction of modern technologies and scientific approaches aimed at ensuring the effectiveness and quality of professional activity in the field. Using the example of the discipline «Methodology and Methods of Scientific Research in Physical Education and Sports», taught to second-year (master’s) students of the National University «Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic» in the specialty 017 Physical Education and Sports, the professional training is characterized, taking into account the scientific component. The described number of ECTS credits, hours allocated for lectures and practical classes, proposed topics of classes, and so on are outlined. The tasks of the mentioned discipline are specified, which include training master’s students to justify the relevance of the chosen research topic, select optimal ways to achieve the goal and solve tasks set in scientific research, determine the object and subject of research, analyze scientific and methodological information sources, as well as leading experience in the field, scientifically and technically formalize research results, determine their practical significance and scientific novelty, and prepare for the main stages of defending their qualification work, and so on. It is concluded that the discipline described in the article, «Methodology and Methods of Scientific Research in Physical Education and Sports», provides the necessary theoretical and methodological foundations and technologies for organizing scientific research activities of future specialists in physical education and sports. Specifically, it forms a theoretical and practical basis for effective and qualified conduct of scientific research work in the chosen research direction.
