Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue of using artificial intelligence in the educational process of higher education. The rapid development of IT technologies has sparked discussions about the necessity and appropriateness of implementing artificial intelligence in the academic and research activities of higher education institutions. The negative consequences of students' frequent use of AI during their professional training are emphasized. Researchers identify the following negative effects of continuous AI use in education: data privacy issues, dependence on technology, the dehumanization of the learning experience, an increased risk of plagiarism, the displacement of teachers, and more. Additionally, a decline in students' cognitive abilities, loss of motivation for independent learning, critical thinking, reflective skills, and creativity should also be considered. The article analyzes the responses of students from domestic higher education institutions regarding the use of AI in higher education. The findings demonstrate that students are well aware of AI and widely apply its capabilities in their learning activities. However, the responses also reveal that not all students fully understand the consequences of AI misuse, particularly in terms of academic dishonesty. In this context, the necessity of developing students’ skills for the ethical and appropriate use of AI in educational and research activities is emphasized. According to the Law of Ukraine "On Education" and the "Digital Competence Framework for Ukrainian Citizens" proposed by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, students must develop information and communication as well as digital competencies, particularly by adhering to academic integrity principles when using AI in education. It is noted that participants in the educational process should learn to use AI tools effectively and understand how neural networks can enhance traditional learning methods without causing harm. The article suggests ways to develop students' essential skills for AI use.
