Summary/Abstract: As far as the transcendence of the fantastic in art is concerned, the concept under discussion is cautious and speculative, opting for certain domains of reference: literature, cinematography or the arts of the performance. In the modern fantastic art, the forms of expression produce an existential estrangement that tends to anihilate the human personality, through the exacerbation of the human being’s states of crisis.Unlike the earlier epochs, the contemporary arts of fantastic inspiration, gradually impose the acceptance of the abnormal feature as it results from the spreading of such notions as: horrible, monstruous in the creations film adaptations of the cinematography, even in those of animated cartoons.Starting with the XIXᵗʰ century, the painting and the photography facilitate the development of the fantastic category by means of technology and the images from the cover pictures, subsequently culminating with the film art.In the second half of the XIXᵗʰ century, the aesthetic category of the fantastic adds a new dimension, that of the deviant and pathologic behaviour, generating horror and terror.
