Summary/Abstract: The article is a continuation of a series devoted to the history of maritime education in the southern Ukrainian lands. The article analyses the events related to the development and operation of civilian maritime institutions in the period of the 20s-40s of the twentieth century. Тhe historical experience of the establishment and operation of maritime educational institutions in the South of Ukraine, without which it is impossible to create an effective system of modern maritime education in our country. Chronologically, the formation of the system of maritime educational institutions in Southern Ukraine in the twentieth century dates back to the early 20s, when specialised maritime schools, colleges, technical schools and institutes began operating in the largest cities of the region - Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa. During the period of the study (20- 40s of the twentieth century), these maritime professional training institutions went through a difficult path of formation and trials, improving their material base and increasing the number of students, and experienced Soviet repression and persecution of teachers and students. The unifying component for all maritime educational institutions in the South of Ukraine was the curriculum, programmes and qualification characteristics of the specialities.
