DANUBE SHIPPING IN 1946: CHALLENGES AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF POST-WAR RECONSTRUCTION

Summary/Abstract: One of the important stages in the development of the Danube Shipping Company was the year 1946 – the actual beginning of the peaceful period in the formation of the enterprise, which was based exclusively on economic factors and prospects. The article identifies the main problems that hindered and slowed down the development of the shipping company during this period. Based on archival documents, the ways in which the Danube Shipping Company staff tried to overcome difficulties (personnel, organizational, technical, etc.) are demonstrated. The main achievements of the enterprise in 1946 and the prospects for its further development are analyzed. The peculiarities in the organization of the activities of foreign shipping agencies operating in most Danube countries are considered. The Danube Shipping Company became the main base of Danube transportation, contributing to the transformation of the Ukrainian Danube region into an important economic factor of the state.
