Summary/Abstract: The relevance of the research is related to the study of aspects of intercultural communication at the regional level for the formation of linguistic and sociocultural competence of future teachers of English and foreign literature in a multiethnic region on the example of the Ukrainian region of Southern Bessarabia (Budzhak), located in the southern part of Odesa region. The authors share their experience in developing the linguistic and sociocultural competence of higher education students based on the implementation of project activities of the Department of English Philology and World Literature and the implementation of its results in the educational process at Izmail State University of the Humanities (ISUH). The literary and local history project «Dialogue of Cultures in the Literature of the Native Land» was launched in 2024. The collection «Cities of Bessarabia. Selected Poems in Parallel English Translation» was published as a result of its implementation. It consists of poems by regional poets dedicated to the cities (Izmail, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Kilia, Tatarbunary, Artsyz, Bolhrad, Reni, etc.) and villages (Safiany, Kamianka, Larzhanka, etc.) of the southern Odesa region in parallel translation into English. They reflect the originality and uniqueness of the historical development of the region, the diligence and vitality of its inhabitants, and the specific flavor of the culture of the region's multi-ethnic population. The project «Dialogue of Cultures in the Literature of the Native Land» is a continuation of a larger interdepartmental project «Regional Literature and Painting of Ethnic Groups of the Ukrainian Danube Region as a Means of Forming the Collective Identity of Local Society» (2019-2021). The series «Poetry of Budzhak» has become one of the project's achievements. In the issues of this series the poetry of the European diasporas of the region was presented in parallel translation into the state language. The implementation of the results of project activities in the educational process was manifested by the addition of a regional component to the program of the course «Methods of Teaching Foreign Literature». Its goal is to study the artistic heritage of contemporary poetry of the Bulgarian and Romanian diasporas, which will prepare the students not only for the professional teaching of the course «Foreign Literature» in a specialized school, but also for reading the course «Literature of the Native Land» in the secondary schools of the southern Odesa region. The implemented projects form the ability to teach intercultural competence, develop the ability to tolerate other cultures and the skills of intercultural dialogue. The convincing results of the project work at the ISUH deepen the linguistic and sociocultural competence of future specialists in English and foreign literature in a multiethnic region, as well as strengthen the collective identity of the diverse regional society of the southern Odesa region. The productive intercultural dialogue is an example of the successful implementation of the European idea of a tolerant borderland.
