Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to describe the ways of teaching Practical Phonetics of the English Language to higher education students in the context of blended learning. Very often undergraduate students pay insufficient attention to learning pronunciation norms of the English language. They underestimate the importance of correct pronunciation mistakenly considering that learning pronunciation and intonation norms of the language is less important than such aspects of learning English as vocabulary and grammar. However, communication in English will be seriously complicated in case your words are mispronounced, even if you use advanced vocabulary words and your grammar is excellent. The purpose of studying phonetics is the formation of phonetic competence of undergraduate students through their familiarization with the basic concepts and categories of modern phonetics of the English language; the development of phonemic hearing, speech intonation skills and articulation skills; the creation of confidence in the practical use of the acquired knowledge in phonetics in the process of communication in the English language. The methodological system of teaching phonetics is aimed at the use of theoretical knowledge for the formation of practical skills and abilities through the systematic and dynamic work of students on learning the educational material in class under the teacher’s guidance. In addition to classroom activities, higher education students are to work independently to develop their auditory and articulatory skills. In case of distance learning, conducting training sessions, organizing assessment and checking the results of independent work of higher education students take place through the Google Meet online video conference platform and the learning management system Moodle. In a blended learning environment LMS Moodle is also widely used for formative and summative assessment, as well as an efficient platform for students’ self-learning and reinforcement of the course material.
