Summary/Abstract: This articles deals with the reflections on contemporary approaches to teaching the academic subject “Introduction to Germanic Philology”. Germanic philology is a science which studies the origin, development and structure of the Germanic group of languages, common patterns and trends in their development and structure, and the relationship of these languages with the languages of other groups of the Indo-European family. This mandatory discipline provides higher education students with profound knowledge of Germanic studies as an important component of linguistic training of future philologists. The aim of teaching the academic subject "Introduction to Germanic Philology" is to show the sequence of basic phonological, grammatical and lexical phenomena in relation to Indo-European and Germanic languages, to prepare students for a more detailed study of the history of some Germanic languages, English and German in particular. The main tasks of teaching the academic subject "Introduction to Germanic Philology" are to cover the history of Germanic tribes and peoples, to describe the general Indo-European features of phonetics, morphology and vocabulary of Germanic languages; to characterize the patterns of phonological, lexical and grammatical structures of Old Germanic and modern Germanic languages. The process of education has undergone changes recently. Teaching the academic subject “Introduction to Germanic Philology” has changed as well. It involves both traditional classroom training and new online methods of learning and teaching. Blended learning, which combines interaction in class with online educational opportunities, has turned out to be the best approach in organizing the process of education under the conditions of globalization and digitalization. In a blended learning environment LMS Moodle is widely used for instruction, assessment and reinforcement of the course material.
