An introduction to the basics of vocal training in contemporary styles

Summary/Abstract: Vocal training plays a key role in the preparation and professional development of singers. Mastery of the vocal instrument allows the singer to freely execute his musical ideas, and knowledge of how it works as a biomechanical, acoustic instrument is essential. The purpose of this article is to examine the basic principles of operation of the vocal tract, which will allow singers to improve their skills and develop their vocal potential. Commonalities and differences in vocal technique between contemporary styles and classical singing will also be touched upon.
