Summary/Abstract: Since its beginning, jazz has undergone various stages in its evolution. The artistic growth of this music – from music with a dance character to highly elevated elite art, by enriching the means of musical expression and complicating form, gradually brought it to the status of an artistic tradition admired throughout the world. The rise of a more obvious modernism in the early 1940s is an indisputable fact. Through bebop, jazz musicians have established themselves as respected performers in the genre. The characteristic features of the style, the innovative approach to the rhythmic organization, the melody, the harmony and the improvisation are considered. Some of the works of the musicians, considered as the founders of the new style are pointed out.
