Summary/Abstract: The spatial organization of a text is a meso- and macro-level textual feature, whereas its linguistic expressions appear on the micro-level, contributing to the creation of textual cohesion. This paper studies the spatial structure of oral life stories or dialogic narratives in relation to memory as published in the volume Life Stories of Hungarian Women in Vojvodina. Positioning the narrated ‘self’ spatially is a key element of the text world. Spaces, as keepers of memories, also help propel the life-narrative forward. The spaces evoked by memories outline an individual’s autobiographical space, their memory map. The paper also touches on spatial markers, approaching them from the perspective typical of cognitive linguistic theories.
