Summary/Abstract: The topic of the dissertation is to present several text-linguistic features of oral life stories based on the oral life stories of Hungarian women in Vojvodina. The text-linguistic analysis has been conducted within the framework of functional cognitive linguistics. Cognitive text linguistics emphasizes the structural and procedural nature of the text, opening up new perspectives in textual examination. One of the main topics of the paper is the role of cognitive schemas and memory in constructing oral life stories, with emphasis on Schank and Abelson’s script theory and the role of autobiographical recollection in text organization. The thesis attempts to explore the textual features of oral life stories through the use of macro-level forms such as viewpoint and space and time structures. The dissertation looks into the role of lexical repetitions and coreferential language elements in the textual context of oral life stories, and addresses the stylistic analysis of life stories. The study of the textual characteristics of oral life stories has also been aided by the examination of these narratives from a functional point of view, that is, of their role in communicative interaction. The thesis also confirms that the cognitive functional approach proves to be applicable in the description of this type of text.
