Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the ecclesiastic organization of the Balkan-Carpathian region in the 13th century. Territorial aspects are analyzed, as follows: the creation of new Catholic bishoprics in the first decades of the 13th century in the area dominated by the Hungarian Kingdom, the Orthodox ecclestiastic organization in western and northern Balkans after the withdrawal of Byzantine power at the end of 12th century, the impact of the confessional Union on the ecclesiastical structure of the region, the establishment of the Bulgarian Orthodox Patriarchate (1235), the Bosnian Bishopric, and the activity of the missionary orders (Dominicans and Franciscans) in the region. The evolutions in the ecclesiastic organization are examined in relation to the political and territorial changes.
