Summary/Abstract: This article examines the possible applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in subject-specific German language instruction for engineering students. It analyses how AI-supported tools can facilitate the acquisition of technical vocabulary, promote domain-specific communication skills, and enable authentic interaction scenarios. The study describes current AI applications—including adaptive learning systems, automated feedback tools, and multimodal simulations—and highlights both their pedagogical potential and their limitations. Special attention is given to AI’s ability to personalize learning pathways and to structure complex engineering content for multilingual learners. Empirical insights from classroom observations and learner surveys illustrate how AI increases learner autonomy and motivation. The findings suggest that AI can enrich language-for-specific-purposes instruction while simultaneously raising questions related to data ethics and transparency.
