In 2013-2015 the fragments of its wall painting were discovered during the archaeological excavations. In the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics of the Joint Institute of Nuclear Research, 63 fragments were examined, predetermined dated of the 14th century. The samples were tested using neutron activation and X-ray fluorescent analysis, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, stratigraphy and polarized microscopy. In addition, comparative methods and mathematical statistics were used. As a result, the obtained data made it possible to identify the artistic ties of Novgorod the Great with Byzantium, to clarify the dating of the frescoes and to assume the origin of certain materials of paintings.
