Summary/Abstract: The third issue of Noga, a Ukrainian journal of artistic documentary writing, marks a significant milestone in the evolution of this genre. Founded by Liza Biletska and Filip Olenyk, the publication emerged as a space for texts that blend factual observation with creative intent, resisting rigid academic definitions. This latest edition showcases an eclectic mix—travelogues, documentary plays, performance documentation, and poetic experiments—reflecting a growing community aligned with the journal’s aesthetic vision. The editors emphasize ethical sensitivity when working with testimonies, balancing respect for subjects with critical insight, and advocate collaborative approaches to documentation. Their concept remains minimalist: few, pixelated images serve as “anti-illustrations,” leaving room for readers’ imagination. Humor, often dark, appears unintentionally, as the editors view it as a double-edged social tool. Influenced by immersive reportage such as Adrian Nicole LeBlanc’s Random Family and Andrea Elliott’s Invisible Child, the team values polyphony and fidelity to lived experience over didacticism. Looking ahead, Noga aspires to publish books in its genre, including Ukrainian works and translations of international documentary classics, continuing its mission to expand literary boundaries and challenge conventional narratives.
