Summary/Abstract: The name Mary, accompanied by the quality of righteousness and becoming, in the conscience of the Church, the Mother of God, underwent a progressive evolution based on the observation of her life. The discretion of the New Testament is only apparent because the Mother was always with the Son, from the Conception to the Ascension. The revelation of the quality of the Virgin Mary, in the economy of salvation, belonged, rather, to the descendants of the Holy Apostles. One of the necessary clarifications was the origin and beginning of the life of the child of Nazareth. From these descendants we learn, starting with the very first years of the second century, details regarding Mary's contribution to the understanding of the Incarnation of Christ. The name received by the child has meaning because it will be discovered in time to define Mary's work. This name will go through the history of Christianity knowing different appellations. From Mary to the Virgin Mary and from him to the Mother of God in Romanian. The consecration of the last two appointments will be known through ecclesiastical writings, synodal decisions, hymnography and iconography. That is why this study tries not to overlook the rise of the name from its common, human form to the celestial height. Orthodox liturgical theology is precisely the tireless “guardian” of this treasure of teaching that it transmits, through the centuries, in artistic form.
