Summary/Abstract: Nowadays in the period of the educational reform the centre of development of education tends to improve the quality of assessment of textbooks and training aids content. It initiated the search of new assessment of textbooks. That is why it is important to find out the criteria which are used by teachers to evaluate textbooks and other training aids. Executing the research, we tried to find out factors which determined the assessments of some characteristics of alternative textbooks of mathematics for the V form. For this reason, we questioned the teachers of the students of the V form who got acquainted with such textbooks from the southeast regions of Lithuania. Analyzing the information of the research, we scrutinized the assessment of different textbooks characteristics, for instance, the common view of the textbook, the methodical features of the content of a textbook, and the possibilities to use a textbook for individual work of students, for differentiation of work and for the development of student’s competence. It is revealed that textbooks assessment is influenced by such factors as the opportunities of individual work, practical works, integration, the variety of signs of information and esthetics, development of competence of mathematical communication and incentive for individual learning. According to the data analysis of the questionnaire of the teachers, we have formulated recommendations for schools how evaluate and choose a textbook which is the most suitable for practical aims of the school.
