Summary/Abstract: This paper addresses the issue of prayer in Islam and Christianity. Monotheistic religions such as Islam and Christianity are based on the belief in the oneness of God. Prayer plays an important role in both religions, as it is regarded as a means of communication with God. Considering the importance of prayer in both religions, it is noticeable that much of the literature dealing with this topic focuses on how joint prayers could be used to improve interfaith relations between followers of Islam and Christianity. However, this paper seeks to present the concept and structure of prayer as one of the most significant aspects of these two religions. The author first examines the theological foundations of prayer in Islam and Christianity, outlining the types of prayers as well as how they are performed in both religions through verbal and physical components. Obligatory and voluntary prayers, formal and informal, as well as individual and collective prayers, are discussed. The study then identifies similarities and differences between prayer in Islam and Christianity by analyzing the structure and meaning of prayer in both religions. Prayer, as an essential expression of believers’ spirituality in Islam and Christianity, re gardless of theological differences, represents an adequate and effective mechanism for strengthening spirituality and ethical-moral behavior.
