Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with a small-size crucifix (54 cm) carved of pearwood, discovered by the present authors in the sacristy of the Cistercian Abbey church in Mogiła near Cracow. In spite of the figure’s having been partially remodelled and its arms replaced, its stylistic features (slenderness of the taut body, with a network of veins marked in places, Christ’s youthful face twisted in a grimace of pain, and above all, the masterful rendering of the anatomy) strongly indicate that it was carved by Veit Stoss at the end of his Cracow period. It is especially close to Stoss’s figures of the Crucified Christ in St Mary’s church in Cracow, in the church at Iwanowice, and in the J. Paul Getty Museum, the last of which was also carved of pearwood. All of them were executed in Cracow, shortly before Stoss’s departure for Nuremberg in 1496.
