Summary/Abstract: Carpatho-Rusyns live in the center of Europe and they have never had their own state. Their homeland - Carpathian Rus’, is situated at the crossroads borders of Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia. Rusyn territory are Lemko Region in Poland, the Prešov Region in Slovakia, Subcarpathian Rus’ in Ukraine, and Maramure in Romania. There are a few compact Rusyn settlements in present-day north-eastern Hungary and in the Vojvodina region of Serbia. Communities of Rusyn immigrants and their descendants are found in the Czech Republic, Canada and United States. The oldest immigration community of Rusyns is in Vojvodina region, where they started to replace in 18th century. The most important immigration community of Rusyns is in USA. American Rusyns in the 20th century are responsible for the annexation of Subcarpathian Rus to Czechoslovakia.
