Summary/Abstract: The article explores the phenomenon of well-being in the journalistic profession and targets reporters of the Czech media who follow crisis events. The author builds on her long-standing interest in the emotions of reporters who covered crises between 2020 and 2025, the period of the COVID-19 disease pandemic and the war in Ukraine, and is interested in the consequences of reporters‘ emotional experiences on their mental health. The text uses grounded theory to reveal that the need to attend to spiritual and mental health also applies to the Czech media scene. It traces the theories journalists build to counter emotional pressure and live their professional and private lives in line with their mental and professional well-being. It demonstrates that especially under the influence of crisis coverage, journalists retreat from their professional routines such as impartiality, disinterestedness and independence and become emotionally involved. They rely on their own emotional reporting literacy as they do not expect external support from their superiors.
