Summary/Abstract: The writer Daniel Pennac, honoured in 2023 by the Académie Française for his entire body of work, a former French teacher, published „School Blues”(„Chagrins d'école”) in 2007, in which he recalls his disastrous schooling, his life as a failing pupil, traumatised by constant academic failure. This literary text is read and analysed through the lens of Boris Cyrulnik's perspective on the process of resilience. We identify the metaphors and arguments used by Daniel Pennac to illustrate the attitudes and teaching practices that transform teachers into „resilience tutors” for their pupils. We discover the mechanisms of resilience activated during the narrator's adolescence and the influence of the „dunce self” on the evolution of the adult writer's personality.
