Summary/Abstract: As a promoter and upholder of the authenticity of the creator, Mircea Eliade manages, through his novel Maitreyi, manifests and expresses his brilliant originality. In addition to authenticity, he is the adept of extracting the novel's substance from intimate notes jotted in his diary and real, personal events. The novel Maitreyi is interesting in terms of technique and conception, too. It is a masterpiece, one of the most successful Romanian exotic love story novel. The love story is a private, personal, moral, exotic experience and a novel that increased with one the series of the myths of humanity. At a first impression, level, we can speak of a remarkable novel, a diary of the discovery of love, an initiatory novel in the mysteries of love, on another level we could speak of a novel of introduction to the mysteries of Indian mysticism. As the erotic knowledge evolves more and more between the two protagonists, so does the discovery of new, sinuous mysteries of the Indian soul and culture. We are witnessing a parallel presentation full of hidden symbols and metaphors of the discovery of a completely new and challenging double labyrinth: one being the eternal, complex, twisted, fragile, inmost female soul doubled here by the mystical scent of Tagorian poetry, by his cosmic and pantheistic poetry; the other being the labyrinth of the Indian culture and civilization, completely opposite to the European one, much deeper and bushy and full of hidden, mysterious symbols and meanings, resonating and vibrating with the whole universe. The act of initiation into the exotic, mystical and erotic rituals of India is masterfully presented, wrapped in the most attractive packaging. Since the acclimatization of the exotic European Allan was achievable, everything could be internalized. The universe created by this enigmatic daughter of India, in which virginal innocence and the refinement of passionate love coexist, the 16-year-old young woman, of a primitive innocence in Allan's eyes is in contrast to the erudition with which she holds profane conferences that could hardly be followed but highly appreciated by a lofty audience. This universe in which she moves is confusing, mysterious and dangerous for the 23-year-old European who came from a diametrically opposite world, culture and civilization. In the person of the two hypersensitive and extremely talented creators of exquisite literary content, well ahead of their times, we have the brilliant testimony of the impossible love story between a European man and an Indian young woman. Their love story gave birth to two exceptional novels that took their place in the pantheon of universal literature among other exceptional creations and writers. They both had that vocation of authenticity, they both capitalized on literary masterpieces from the thesaurus of their tumultuous, personal experiences.
