Summary/Abstract: The article explores the history and evolution of the concept of graphicacy, from its introduction in the 1960s to the present day. Initially, the term referred mainly to the ability to create and interpret maps and diagrams within the context of geography education. Over time, however, its scope has broadened to encompass a diverse range of skills related to the creation, interpretation, and analysis of various forms of visual communication, including graphs, diagrams, and infographics. The concept has also evolved to incorporate approaches such as critical graphicacy and data-graphicacy, which emphasise the importance of critical analysis concerning visual messages in both educational and social contexts.
