Summary/Abstract: If the canonical discourse refers to the study of a text in relation to its conditions of production (Sarfati 2019), canonical discourse analysts are those who, in a given society, are interested in the modality by which social order is constructed through communication by attempting to maintain a balance between reflection on the functioning of discourse and the understanding of socio-historical or psychological phenomena (Maingueneau 2021), with the intention of responding to social problems of an educational, political, health, etc. nature. Having the Covid-19 pandemic as a framework, we propose an analysis of four televised debates coming from the French and Romanian spaces, grouped two by two and categorized as integrated discourse and controversial discourse. The aim of the approach consists in understanding the way “in which the participants conceive a fragment of reality, the structure of their interaction, the way in which their communicative intentions are reflected in the language” (Cosmescu 2010: 55) and the possible impact on the public in general.
