LEXICAL ASPECTS OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN FRENCH AND ROMANIAN. LUDIC CREATION

Summary/Abstract: In the past century, we witnessed a dynamic process in the lexicon of languages, both in created words and borrowings. Beginning with 2020, the phenomenon of the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a significant increase in the number of words, thus bringing many changes on a social and psychological level, interfering both in the life of each citizen, and in the daily vocabulary. In Romanian and French, languages representing the main target of our analysis, the new specialized lexicons are reflected in everyday life.This paper intends to make a brief presentation of the dictionaries and minidictionaries in which the pandemic vocabulary plays an important role: Le Petit Robert and Le Petit Larousse illustré (2022),“Lexiques et vocabulaire” published by the Canadian Government in April 2021, TEIA (Terminologie Interactive pour l’Europe) – IATE (Interactive Terminology for Europe),Dictionnaire COVID : le lexique de la pandemie de A – Z published in the African area, DiCovid-19 (2023) by Henri Gourseau, the new edition of DOOM – Dicţionarul Ortografic, Ortoepic şi Morfologic al Limbii Române (2021), “Mini-dicționar de pandemie COVID-19” (2020) by Ghenadie Râbaciov, etc. The next step concentrates on some atypical dictionaries in order to underline their importance in the perception of the phenomenon called the Covid-19 pandemic. These dictionaries involve the ludic aspect: Olivier Auroy, cu Dicorona (2020); Le “Dicovid” des mots inventés, published on the website Le Robert Dico en ligne (2021), containing words created by internet users desirous to ‘clarify’ the sanitary crisis; Roberte Lagrande with Dicovid ou Lexique raisonné du grand confinement de 2020 (2021); “Le lexique de la pandémie” presented by Rebecca Déraspe on TV5MONDE PLUS; Mic dicționar literar de pandemie (2020) due to the Romanian journal Scena9; Oana Țepeș Greuruș, with “Mic dicționar de pandemie: ‘rona, «glovoist», mască” (2020), etc.
