Summary/Abstract: A Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) is a mark that identifies a product originating in a specific place, region or country and whose qu-ality can be attributed primarily to that geogra-phical origin. The EU knows three types of food trademarks. The main purpose is to distinguish between two types of commodities, even if they have the same name. Czech blue poppy has now become a recognized European food.
