A Brand New Government and a New Loan From IMF

Summary/Abstract: The new economic deal signed between the Romanian state and the IMF seems to be the most important initiative of the PDL-PSD coalition government led by Emil Boc. This article tries to measure its significance against its impact on the PDL-PSD political partnership. I argue that the IMF episode rendered intelligible the conflictual nature of the PDL-PSD coalition as it unofficially marked the start of the presidential race.
