Summary/Abstract: This article aims to address a relatively underexplored issue – the emergence of the dance film genre, also known as dance for camera, in the Bulgarian cultural field for the first time. The text briefly traces the development of modern dance in Bulgaria, with particular emphasis on the 1980s, or the final years of the communist regime, when the appearance of interdisciplinary art forms – merging visual and performative genres – became possible, alongside the creation of the first productions conceived outside the conventions of classical ballet.
