ROMANIA'S CULTURAL DIPLOMACY – NOTABLE PERSONALITIES

Summary/Abstract: Cultural diplomacy has become a vital component of a state’s diplomacy and its significance is growing. Moreover, cultural diplomacy can open doors where political or economic relations cease.The cultural diplomacy of Romania promotes culture abroad in several ways: negotiation of intergovernmental agreements in the fields of culture and education, negotiation of executive programs that implement these agreements, cultural and educational exchanges, or organizing cultural events at Romanian missions abroad. Many personalities of Romanian cultural diplomacy (writers, historians, architects, art critics, composers, archaeologists, artists, academics, etc.) have promoted Romanian culture and identity beyond national borders. In light of these factors, this article seeks to highlight aspects of the history of Romanian cultural diplomacy as well as outstanding personalities who have promoted the country’s culture abroad.
