Summary/Abstract: Around the year 330, a Christian poet, Gaius Vettius Aquilinus Iuvencus, put the Gospel into dactylic hexameter and thus created the first biblical epic in the history of literature. His work, commonly known as Evangeliorum libri quattuor is, however, more than a mere paraphrase of the New Testament. It also reflects the contemporary dogmatic disputes caused by the rise of Arian heresy with the aim of supporting Nicene Christianity. Therefore, the purpose of our study is to identify and discuss the passages which Iuvencus adds to the original text of the Gospel in order to make it more favourable to the Nicene interpretation of the Scripture. The philological analysis of Iuvencus' pro-Nicene exegetical additions is followed by their close comparison with the text of the Nicene creed and the extant epistles of Arius.
