Summary/Abstract: The integration of energy storage into distibution networks is becoming a key in the modernization of power systems. This paper explores various energy storage technologies, including battery systems, pumped storage, thermal storage, and kinetic storage, analyzing their advantages and disadvantages. A particular focus is placed on the role of energy storage in distribution networks from both a technical and economic perspective. Technical challenges include adapting existing infrastructure, developing smart grids, and ensuring systems stability and security. The economic analysis covers cost / effectiveness, benefits for the grid and consumers, and regulatory aspects influencing, the implementation of storage systems. Trough case studies, examples of successful energy storage applications worldwide are presented, along with opportunities for their implementation in local power networks. The conclusion highlights the key benefits of energy storage and provides recommendations for further integration, emphasizing the need for regulatory reforms and technological improvements to maximize the efficiency and economic viability of these systems.
