Summary/Abstract: Phencyclidine is a substance that exhibits relatively strong psychoactive effects and is highly addictive. In an addicted person, its use leads to hallucinations, uncontrolled psychotic behavior and a distorted perception of one's own identity. The use of phencyclidine is often associated with serious health problems, which in the event of an overdose can result in coma and death. Social and economic consequences are also closely linked to health risks. A number of instrumental methods are used to control the quality of phencyclidine, especially in cases where its contamination with other dangerous substances is suspected. One of them is fast, sensitive and non-destructive infrared spectroscopy. In the presented work, experimental conditions for the analysis of phencyclidine by the transmission method of infrared spectroscopy using the Fourier transform were optimized. To obtain an ideal spectral image of the sample, the influence of solvents, cuvette material, diffusion foil size, and temperature was investigated.
